Section: Peninsula Crane Lake Road 129.1 to Dyres Bay Road 116.8 including Juniper Flats Side Trail
Leader: John N
Hikers: John N., John K., Diane and Sandra
Leaving Oakville very early, the group gathered at Pete’s ready for the long drive to the Peninsula.
Our hikes for today coincided so we distributed cars at Dyer’s Bay and got ready for a beautiful hike and a very pleasant day.
The side trail we covered today interspersed with the main trail. We hiked the main trail and the Juniper Flats side trail. The terrain during this side trail consists of a variety of interesting landscapes. They include mixed forests, meadow and alvar (karst topography). Extensive areas of juniper can be seen on the alvar.
John indicated that this portion was much like the topography they found while hiking in Iceland.
We exited the side trail getting a great view from the top of the escarpment.
This site contains the details of the the Blue & White Explorers which was a regular program of the Pathfinders Hiking Group of Oakville .
