Section: Peninsula - Cape Chin at 99.6 ,Pat Durant Bard and Otter Lake Side trails to Cape Chin North at 110 km.
Hike Leader: John N.
Hikers: John N., John K., Peter & Sally, Sandra
Today’s hike was close to the Section we were in the previous day. The large group started together and then we branched off. Cape Chin in Dyer’s Bay area was the location.
These side trails again intersperse with the main trail. Today we covered the section that included the Pat Daunt Side Trail. This side trail is named after landowner who in 1980 gave the Bruce Trail its first easement in the Peninsula.
Proceeding along the main trail again we then did the Otter Lake Side Trail.
The weather was great as was our pace. On private property this area is a birding naturalist’s treasure. We heard and saw many different types of birds. John K. pointed out a beech tree with bear claw marks.
We were glad not to see the bear in person. The waters of Dyer’s Bay were quite pretty with lots of shades of blue and green.
We met the other group as we journeyed and after we had completed the Bard side trail and had our lunch.
Back to Tobermory for ice cream in good time!
This site contains the details of the the Blue & White Explorers which was a regular program of the Pathfinders Hiking Group of Oakville .
