Hike Report - Iroquoia Hike 9

Section: Iroquoia 9 ‘modified’ Mount Nemo to Twiss Rd,
start km 91.5 end 102.3 plus R&R ST for 13.3 km
Hike Leader: John N
Hikers: John, Karen, Bill, Dianne, Jim, and Rudi

The Hikers met at Colborne Centre and, following a brief review of the hike plan and driving directions by Leader John, departed for Twiss Rd and then to Mount Nemo parking lot to commence the hike. The weather turned out to be quite pleasant and sunny as the Hike left the parking lot and picked up the Trail towards Guelph Line.

Crossing  Guelph Line and along the south side of Colling Rd the Trail turns right onto Blind Line and continued  to cross Britannia Rd.

From here the Trail follows an unopened road allowance into the Bronte Creek Valley. Although the Trail was covered with fresh snow, it was surprisingly devoid of ice. Leaving the main Trail at the junction with the Blue River and Ruin Side Trail the Hike followed the Blue Trail to make a loop of 2.6 km over private land, through a spruce woodlot, past the ruins of an old stone house, alongside huge willow trees close to Bronte Creek, to return to the Main Trail at the bridge.

Crossing over Bronte Creek the Trail passed through a swamp followed by a steep climb up the north side of the valley to reach No. 8 Sideroad and Twiss Rd.  Passing through the Village of Kilbride and past the Kilbride School, the Hike continued on the Trail along the creek bank to Derry Rd. Once across the road the Trail  jogged right and then left along a hedgerow into mixed woodland, along a boardwalk through a cedar swamp, and up a slope then past the historic calcium pits to arrive at Twiss Rd and our staged cars.

And so another pleasant and successful hike was completed. After recovering the staged cars the Hike headed to Tim’s for the usual debrief.
