It was a fine day for weather considering the time of year and we began hiking along the 2nd Line ECL Side Trail through forest with numerous boardwalks over streams.  These boardwalks were often ice covered and required some caution on our part to walk over.  This section in and around Oliver Creek was quite hilly and we all soon warmed up on this late fall day.

This warming trend was somewhat reversed when we lost the protection of the trees as we entered a road section towards Whitfield Church at Centre Road.

Then it was back into a wooded area and a steady descent through the very pleasant Pine River Valley.

We continued past the old Kilgorie Schoolhouse and passed along what is known as the Bell Section, named after Grant and Grace Bell, founding members of the Dufferin Hi-Land Club and thankfully nothing whatsoever to do with Bell Canada.  This interesting and scenic section passes the concrete shell of the Dufferin Light and Power Company generating station apparently closed during the 1930’s.

After this we hiked through the Pine River Provincial Fishing Area and took the steep path up the Bell Lookout Side Trail where we had a splendid lunch.  This included benches and a view over the fishing pond.  What more could you ask for?  We continued after lunch and reached the Kilgorie Side Trail and back to the cars.   A 12K hike in total.  Pete’s Donuts in Primrose welcomed us with hot coffee and goodies, one of the numerous highlights of the day.
