Section: Iroquoia 8, Fisher Side Trail to Mount Nemo Side Trail,
Start Fisher at intersect Main Trail at 78.6 km, end Main Trail marker 91.5 km for distance of 11.6 km
Hike Leader: John Nourse
Hikers: John N, Karen, Bill, Dianne, John G, Jim, and Rudi
Following a review of the hike plan and driving directions, the Hike departed Colborne Centre at 8:00 am to position cars and commence the hike north from Springer Crescent on the Fisher Access Trail in Burlington. Because of overnight rain and recent thawing, the Trail was mostly muddy with some residual ice covered parts.
Passing through woods, farmland and beautiful woodland, the Hike soon reached and crossed Guelph Line.
Leaving Guelph Line, the Trail follows a hedgerow east and then enters a bush of maples and young white pines to emerge onto No.1 Sideroad.
From here the Trail follows the side road to Walker’s Line,
then turns left onto Walker’s Line to No. 2 Sideroad. Turning off Walker’s Line the Hike made brief water stop before moving along a road allowance to enter the Doug Cooper Section
and the muddy climb up to the rocks below the Escarpment wall.
Once through the rocks, up the ladder and through the narrow gap, the Hike emerged at the top of Mount Nemo.
From here the Trail crosses the top of Mount Nemo, covering fairly level terrain criss-crossed with fissures, some of which lead into a system of vertical caves, and along several lookout points to reach the Mount Nemo Side Trail at the observation platform. After a brief lunch stop, the Hike turned onto the Side Trail past an abandoned quarry to reach Guelph Line and our planned end point. From here cars were recovered and the Hike regrouped at Tim’s for post-hike debrief.
