Hike Report - Toronto 5

Section: Tenth Line to Creditview Rd. Distance 11.6 km
          Hike Leader: John Giesbrecht
Hikers: John G, Agnes, Ella, Rudi

Description- The hike began at Tenth Line at 9:20 AM on a cool cloudy day. We parked beside a large house with a private lake behind it. Shortly leaving Tenth Line on the White trail we walked down a steep embankment, along a creek and over a bridge. As we walked along the trail on our left we passed an area of red shale like material on the side of the hill. This is the same material that makes up the Cheltenham Badlands.

Less than a kilometre further we entered the Terra Cotta Side Trail.

The trail was wide and well maintained. Easy walking allowed us to take in the scenery without constantly watching our feet. We entered a dark forest of tall pine trees. The height of the trees and the tall canopy prevented any undergrowth; consequently the ground was covered with pine needles that were soft underfoot.

Walking alongside a steep valley we eventually came to the Caledon Trailway.

Following this straight and level trail we made quick progress. We left the Trailway at Heritage Rd. and in less than a kilometre entered the bush again. Following the blue blazes took us through a mature forest, down into a valley, across a stream and up the other side to rejoin the Main Trail at km 45.0.

Now we retreated south to km 44.1 and entered the Rockside Side Trail.

The trail consisted of an old road allowance and descending, we came to the main trail on Boston Mills Road. We paused here for lunch.

Walking along the road we passed many lovely farms and on the distant horizon were the towering buildings of Toronto. We also passed Spirit Tree Cider Farm and bakery that unfortunately was closed. But the beautiful setting beckoned us to return some day when it was open.

Turning left on Creditview we saw the reassuring sight of our car in the distance. It was 12:20 PM when we reached the car. Overall it was another pleasant hike for the Blue And White Explorers.
