Section: Forks of the Credit to Mountainview Access Trail Distance 17.5 km
Hike Leader: John N
Hikers: John N, Karen N, John G, Agnes, Ella, Rudi, Jim Douglas, Bill H,
Diane H.
The hike began at the Forks at 9:50 AM. It was a crisp but sunny day as we began our hike. We started our hike at km 9.4 on the white trail and at km 11.9 we entered the Quarryman’s Side Trail.
It was a steep ascent on the side trail that took us back to the Main Trail at km 14.7. Following the Main Trail we entered Puckering Lane and as we left the Lane and entered a road allowance, and a series of ups and downs led eventually, to another steep ascent. Walking along the Escarpment Sideroad we paused for a picture at the gates to Elton John’s estate. Imagining him giving us a personal concert right here on his driveway made for an amusing moment.
We then passed under highway 10 and continued along the Escarpment Sideroad. According to the Bruce Trail Guide we were no longer on the Escarpment but traversing a massive glacial till called the Paris Moraine. Before passing through a pine plantation we paused for lunch, reclining on a field of soft grass.
Eventually we came to St Andrew’s Road.
Leaving the road at km 27.4 we entered a recently harvested cornfield strewn with empty corncobs and at km 28.4 we entered the Mountainview Access Trail that led to the vehicles on Mountainview Road.
Another successful hike completed by 2 PM and we all agreed it was just the right distance.
